Video: Attack on Japan; Former PM Shinzo Abe shot in the Chest during speech

Shinzo Abe, former Japanese Prime Minister, was shot in Nara on July 8, 2022. A suspect was apprehended at the scene.

“Former Japanese Prime Minister Abe Shinzo collapsed during a speech in the city of Nara, in western Japan. Initial reports say he may have been injured. An NHK reporter on-site heard something that sounded like a gunshot and saw Abe bleeding,” NHK said in an alert.

He was the former Prime Minister of Japan. Abe made news as the longest-serving PM by consecutive days in office before he announced his decision to step down in 2020 after suffering from Chronic illness.

He was shot in his chest while campaigning for the upcoming elections on the street outside the train station. The incident occurred at around 11.30 am. It has been inferred that the older man has been showing no vital signs since the time he was rushed to the hospital.

Abe was hit towards the left of his chest as the attacker fired multiple shots. One appears to have hit the former PM in the neck.

Though a suspect has been taken in custody, any proper information regarding the killing hasn’t been provided. Sources have informed that a 41-year-old man Tetsuya Yamagami, believed to be a resident of Nara City, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for shooting at Abe.

Chief Cabinet Secretary, Hirokazu Matsuno, told the media that he is not aware of Abe’s condition and is determined that strict action will be taken against the wrongdoer.

The Prime Minister suspended the campaign after the shooting evidence, and he returned to Tokyo.

Even the United States is shocked to hear the news.

“Abe-san has been an outstanding leader of Japan and an unwavering ally of the United States,” Emanuel said in a statement. “The US government and American people are praying for the well-being of Abe-san, his family, and the people of Japan.”
