Rio 2 collects Rs 5.7 crore in India

Animated film from Hollywood, “Rio 2” has been released worldwide on April 11,2014. The 3D musical comedy movie is a sequel to the 2011 animated hit film “Rio”.

The movie is translated in Hindi with voices by Bollywood actors Imran Khan and Sonakshi Sinha. Imran Khan also lead a flash mob with a vibrant group of dancers while promoting the animation movie at a Mumbai mall.

Featuring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg as the macaws Jewel and Blu, “Rio 2” also has voices by Andy Garcia, Bruno Mars, Rita Moreno and Kristin Chenoweth. The adventures of Jewel, Blu and their three children has shifted from Rio de Janeiro to the Amazon rainforest where Jewels parents have been found.

Directed by Carlos Saldanha, “Rio 2” is produced by Blue Sky Studios and 20th Century Fox Animation. This is the first sequel outside the Ice Age franchise for the studio. Made on a budget of $103 million, “Rio 2” has so far collected $55.5 million from overseas.

The movie has so far received mixed reviews from critics. Rotten Tomatoes website that features score aggregation from film reviews has 5.5/10 while Metacritic has a score of 49 out of 100.

Film critic Rajeev Massand called “Rio 2” as predictable yet undeniably entertaining. He rated the movie three out of five stars. Hindustan Times rated the movie
