Netflix has dropped the first behind-the-scenes featurette for the forthcoming second season of Fate: The Winx Saga, featuring a commentary by the cast and showrunner Brian Young as they teased fans what to expect in the next season. The teen fantasy drama is slated to return on September 16.
In addition to the release date, the streamer has also confirmed the casting of Oscar nominee Miranda Richardson (Good Omens) and Daniel Betts, who are set to portray the respective roles of Headmistress Rosalind and Professor Harvey.
Fate: The Winx Saga is coming-of-age series that follows the story of five unlikely friends attending Alfea, a magical boarding school in the Otherworld where they must learn to master their magical powers while navigating love, rivalries, and the monsters that threaten their very existence.
The live-action series stars Abigail Cowen as Bloom, Hannah van der Westhuysen as Stella, Precious Mustapha as Aisha, Eliot Salt as Terra, and Elisha Applebaum as Musa. It also features Sadie Soverall, Freddie Thorp, Danny Griffin, Theo Graham, Jacob Dudman, Eve Best, Robert James-Collier, Josh Cowdery, Alex Macqueen, and Eva Birthistle.
Season 2 will feature the introduction of Brandon Grace as Grey, Éanna Hardwicke as Sebastian, and Paulina Chávez as Flora, who is one of the main leads and founding members of the Winx Club in the animated series.
Fate: The Winx Saga is being executive produced by Brian Young (The Vampire Diaries, Kyle XY), Iginio Straffi, and Archery Pictures’ Judy Counihan and Kris Thykier. Young is also serving as the showrunner. Principal photography has already begun in Ireland.
The animated series was created by Rainbow Group CEO Iginio Straffi in 2004 and has been on the air for almost 15 years. Due to its massive success both in Europe and in the U.S., it now has two spin-off series, merchandise, a fashion doll line, and video game tie-ins.
