Friendship Day 2022: Friendship Day holds great significance in everyone’s life. Every year Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August and the day is to celebrate the role of a friend in life. Though there is no single day to cherish friendship even if there is a day let’s just make the most out of it!
In 1935, The United States Congress proclaimed first Sunday of August as the National Friendship Day on the basis that the valuable role of a friend plays in life. And ever since the day has become an annual event.

Several other countries also started celebrating the day after seeing the success and popularity of it and that is the reason it is celebrated worldwide. In 1997, the United Nation named Winnie-the Pooh as the world’s Ambassador of friendship.

In 2011, as per the resolution adopted by the United Nation, 30^th July was decided to celebrate as International Friendship Day with an aim to forge a strong bond of friendship of people of various countries irrespective of race, color, gender, religion, etc.
Friendship Day is celebrated across several countries. It was first proposed in Paraguay in 1958 as International Friendship Day. It is, however, known to have originated from Hallmark cards, by Joyce Hall, in 1930.

The United Nations finally declared July 30 as the official International Friendship Day. In India; however, it is usually celebrated on the first Sunday of the month of August.
