Google doodle celebrates legendary singer Kishore Kumar’s birthday

A smiling Kishore Kumar is the latest doodle looking from the Google India home page logo on August 4th, 2014 which is the movie legend’s 85th birth anniversary.

Kishore Kumar who was born Abhas Kumar Ganguly was a singer cum actor known for his multi-talented personality. Kishore is best known as one of the greatest playback singers of Indian cinema was also an actor, composer, lyricist, director, producer, script, and screenplay writer. The doodle also celebrates the same versatility by featuring each of the icons on four sides of the doodle.

Born on August 4, 1929, Kishore Kumar was introduced to movies by his equally talented elder brother Ashok Kumar. He was already a big star in Hindi movies. Kishore started his career as a chorus singer in the Hindi film “Bombay Talkies” that starred Ashok Kumar in the lead role.

Kishore starred for the first time in “Shikari” (1946) that had his brother Ashok Kumar playing the lead role. However, he loved music more than acting. His successful movies as a lead actor include Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), Half Ticket (1962), and Padosan (1968).

“Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi” which was a home production, starred the three of the four Ganguly brothers, and actress Madhubala. Kishore was also known for his eccentric nature. As a singer, his popularity reached great heights during the 1960s.

Kishore Kumar was married four times first to Ruma Guha Thakurta then actress Madhubala, third to Yogeeta Bali, and then to Leena Chandavarkar until his death on October 13, 1987.
