Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton stayed in England amid information that the Queen was under medical care on Thursday. At the same time, their husbands, Prince Harry and Prince William traveled to Balmoral to be at her bedside.

But apparently, there was some “behind the scenes drama” regarding Meghan’s plans, in that at first she was planning to accompany Harry to Balmoral, and then “tensions” were deemed too high.

“Tensions were so high and there was no way Meghan could have gone to Balmoral,” a “highly-placed” palace source tells Page Six. “The fact the Sussex camp did say both Harry and Meghan were going — and then quickly retracted that statement — will tell you everything you need to know about the drama behind the scenes.”

The source added, “Harry and Meghan hate being separated, so being alone in Scotland will have been very hard for Harry. No wonder why he left so early.”

Harry left Balmoral and returned to England on Friday, and he’s expected to stay in the country for the next ten days until the Queen’s state funeral. He and Meghan are currently staying at their Windsor home Frogmore Cottage (just a five-minute walk from Kate and William’s home Adelaide Cottage).

It’s unclear if Meghan will return home to California as planned to be with the couple’s two children or if Archie and Lilibet (who are now eligible to be Prince and Princess should Prince Charles grant them the title) will fly to England to be with their parents and attend their great-grandmother’s funeral.
