It was well anticipated that Vijay starrer Tamil film “Kaththi” will open well at the box office, but even the trade experts wouldn’t believe that the action thriller made more than Rs. 10 Crores.
Yes, the much appreciated movie, which opened from mixed to positive reviews has managed to garner 12.5 crore nett on the first day itself, says a report on International Business Times.
An entertainment industry tracker- Sreedhar Pillai- tweeted on his official account- “#Kaththi takes extraordinary opening on day 1 in TN. Trade very happy as all shows full, wide release & tax free.”
The movie has also benefited from being tax free, which has lowered the ticket prices and added to the revenue. The five-day-long festive weekend will also help the film.
The film continued its dream run for the 2nd day, as well, and the overall collections in two days have been Rs. 23.45 crores.
Even outside India, the film has gained great numbers. In US, the movie earned $1,42,805, which is a record, given that only Rajinikanth’s “Endhiran” made such figures.
Outside Tamil Nadu, the movie had 200 screens in Kerela, where the openings have been great, with collections of Rs. 1.75 crore nett. It failed to pass Vijay starrer “Jilla” record, which was Rs. 1.95 crore.
In Karnataka, the movie opened in 102 screens and fetched an amount of Rs. 1.5 crore nett.
Reports suggested that the multiplexes have the gained most benefit from the tax free point as they increased their shows.
