Teachers could be in line to get a big break and earn up to $2,000 in bonus checks from the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) in North Carolina, as a plan has been approved for this.
“LETRS professional learning bonus” is the name of the project that WCPSS is projecting to give bonus checks for a grand total of $16 million.
Eligibility for this up to $2,000 bonus checks
There are many groups of teachers that belong to the Wake County Public School System that are eligible to receive this bonus, for instance:
- Those who teach Elementary school English as a second language
- K-5 teachers
- Instruction specialists
- Special education instructors teaching the regular curriculum
- Teachers that participated in WCPSS training from 2019 to 2020
- Teachers and WCPSS intervention for Academically or intellectually gifted (AIG) students participating from 2022 to 2024.

Eligible staff members must be working at the Wake County Public School System during the first month that the bonus is paid.
K-5 teachers have the possibility of receiving a $2,000 bonus but will only get $1,000 if they participate but don’t end up achieving “mastery” in their modules.
The training units are classified as 1-4 and 5-8.

Pre-K teachers can get a maximum $1,000 bonus just for completing the 1-4 modules, they’ll receive just $500 if they fail to achieve mastery after participating.
All qualifying teachers will get their money separated into two checks, half on each cycle.
The WCPSS said that the payments will be going out on November 2022, May 2023, November 2023, and May 2024.
