‘John Day’ movie review and box-office collection report

Hindi thriller film, “John Day” was released on September 13, 2013. It is written and directed by Ahishor Solomon and has veteran Naseeruddin Shah with Randeep Hooda, Vipin Sharma, Sharat Saxena and Shernaz Patel starring in the movie.

Ahishor had assisted famous directors Mahesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt on their previous films “Jism”, “Paap” and “Rog”.

The movie is produced by Anjum Rizvi, K Asif and Aatef A Khan. The soundtrack composed by Kshitij Tarey and a special song has been composed by the music band ‘Strings’. Sandeep Chowta has given background music which is receiving praise for its thriller feel.

“Grand Masti” had a good start at the box-office with good occupancies across the country.

The movie is rumoured to be based on a Spanish thriller “La Caja 507” and is being criticised for its goriness and sloppy second half.

While First Post called the movie dull and boring, reviewer Subhash K. Jha called it an unexpected little gem. Koimoi rated the movie just 1 star out of 5.

With not so much favourable reviews, and no much big releases this week, biggies from previous week are bound to be benefitted.

“John Day” collected approximately Rs 1.50 crores nett in its opening weekend. Breakup: Friday 45 lacs, Saturday 50 lacs, Sunday Rs 55 lakhs.
