The COVID-19 stimulus money provided Americans with a lifeline at the worst of the pandemic. However, not everyone got their full share of the funds that were owed.
To contact the millions of Americans who didn’t get their monies put into their bank accounts, the IRS is now stepping up its outreach efforts. There is still time for those who are behind on payments to catch up, but November is quickly approaching.
IRS Letters Coming In The Mails
The IRS began mailing letters to customers they suspect skipped out on COVID-19 payouts they were owed at the beginning of October of this year.
According to Chuck Rettig, the commissioner of the IRS, the goal was to make sure that no one was leaving funds on the table. In a statement, he stated, “The IRS wants to remind potentially eligible consumers, especially households, that they may be eligible for these significant tax benefits.”

For anyone who might have been hesitant to demand stimulus funds, the IRS has also addressed some important points in the letters that are being distributed.
According to the agency, receiving stimulus funds would not affect eligibility for means-tested federal benefits like Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, & Children (WIC), or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF).
The government reaffirmed that applying for stimulus funds would not affect one’s capacity to apply for a green card and that applying for tax credits would not affect one’s eligibility for any immigration rights or future immigration standards.

The letter is intended for people with lower incomes and others who don’t typically file tax returns since they might not have gotten one of the $1,400 checks or the enhanced Child Tax Credit that were made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act.
How To Apply For Unclaimed Stimulus Funds
Through November 17, 2022, you can submit a tax return using IRS Free File. If your income is less than $73,000, you can use this program to receive any of the stimulus funds that were given last year but were not claimed.
GetCTC.org offers a streamlined method for obtaining the $1,400 stimulus checks, the enlarged Child Tax Credit, as well as the augmented Earned Income Tax Credit.
It is accessible through November 15, 2022. If you utilize this program, you won’t need to submit a complete tax return to receive your money.
