Many American governments have been disbursing monies to their citizens as tax refunds or measures to fight economic strain. By the end of November, eligible people in Illinois, Massachusetts, South Carolina, and Virginia will start getting payouts.
Illinois
According to CNET, Illinois’ estimated $1.83 billion relief package includes income and property tax rebates and a temporary reduction in sales taxes that will last through November.
Individuals under $200,000 in 2021 will be eligible for a $50 income tax credit, while married couples filing jointly and making less than $400,000 will be eligible for a $100 credit. A $100 rebate will also be given to taxpayers who claimed up to three dependents on their 2021 tax return.
Massachusetts
Massachusetts residents will receive automatic tax refunds in November through check or direct transfer. According to a government website and as reported by CNBC Make It, the check amount will equal 13% of each resident’s unpaid income taxes as of 2021.
The state tax return for 2021 for eligible residents had to be submitted on or before the deadline, which for most people was October 17 this year.
Carolina, South
In November or December, South Carolina taxpayers may get a tax refund check for up to $800.
Residents who paid taxes will receive a rebate, with the amount increasing based on tax liability, up to $800 per filing, according to The Center Square and as reported by CNET. The rebates are given out on a per-person basis.
Virginia
A one-time reimbursement of $250 for single filers and $500 for joint filers is available to Virginia citizens with a tax burden in 2021, according to an announcement by Governor Glenn Youngkin.
To qualify, residents must have a 2021 tax liability and file between July 1 and November 1, 2022. Anyone who files will get their reimbursement four months after filing. By the Governor’s office, rebates are handled on a “first in/first out” basis.
You’ll probably get your rebate by direct deposit if you get your tax refund that way this year. According to Forbes, the Virginia General Assembly will mail you a printed check in the alternative.
