Pennsylvania and Montana have proposed legislation for resident gas refunds, direct stimulus check payouts, grocery tax reductions, and income tax rebates, albeit their state lawmakers have not yet adopted it.
Approval Of Rebate In Montana
Rather than waiting for the regularly planned session in January 2023, several Republican legislators in Montana have called for a special legislature meeting to approve a resident rebate. They planned to give taxpayers refunds of more than $1 billion, including payments of up to $1,000 for landowners and approximately $1,250 for individuals who have paid state income taxes. The Montana legislature rejected the idea. Therefore, whether a special session would be called to discuss it is uncertain.
In Pennsylvania, legislation is currently being considered to offer direct support to roughly 250,000 people to help them pay for costs like daycare and household bills. The $2,000 payment would be available to families with earnings of $80,000 or less under the PA Opportunity Program of outgoing governor Tom Wolf. The state’s surplus would be used to pay for the payouts, but Republicans say this might worsen inflation.
Eligibility For Property Tax Rebate
In the meantime, the Property Tax Rebate program may be able to compensate some residents. To qualify, a resident must be 65 years of age or older, a widow or widower must be 50 years of age or older, or a person with a disability must be 18 years of age or older. The application date is December 31. If you own your house, your yearly income must be no more than $35,000; if you rent, it must be no more than $15,000. Not all sources of payment must be disclosed on the application, though. For instance, when filing, candidates are only needed to report 50% of their Social Security income.
Check the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue site for the complete list of eligibility requirements and income exemptions. The scheme caps the rebate amount at $650, but further rebates can increase it to $975. A second rebate equivalent to 70% of the initial rebate will be given to residents who were accepted for a refund on property taxes or bills paid in 2021 at some time in 2022, reports Forbes.
