England won the toss and chose to bat first in the first Cricket Test against Pakistan, being played at Rawalpindi from Dec 1-5, 2022.
England is touring Pakistan after 17 years to play the three-match series in Rawalpindi.
For England, Will Jacks made his debut, coming into the side for Ben Foakes, who failed to recover in time, leaving Ollie Pope to take the wicketkeeping gloves.
Liam Livingstone will make his Test debut as expected, having been named in England’s original XI after playing 30 white-ball internationals. Opener Ben Duckett returns to the England line-up after six years, having played four Tests in 2016.
“We’re going to have a bat; I think it’s pretty obvious why,” Stokes said with good humor at the toss. “Not ideal to start the series like this, but hopefully, we’ll all be good.”
There were four debutants for Pakistan, who are without Shaheen Shah Afridi after he injured his knee during the T20 World Cup final defeat to England last month and underwent surgery to remove his appendix.
