Why is the Australian Prime Minister in India?
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to have key bilateral discussions to advance relations between India and Australia during his visit to India. The Australian prime minister is expected to announce major investments in Australia’s rare earth industry during his visit to India.
Wednesday, after arriving in India, Albanese paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi by going to the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad. In Raj Bhawan in the state capital Gandhinagar, he celebrated Holi alongside Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Governor Acharya Devvrat.
Duration of the Prime Ministers’ visit
From March 8 to March 11, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is set to pay a four-day state visit to India. It follows the Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA), which went into effect in December and is the first visit by an Australian prime minister in six years.

The Australian prime minister is joined by Australia’s Minister for Trade and Tourism Senator Don Farell, Minister for Resources and Northern Australia Madeleine King, and other senior officials, as well as a high-level business delegation, as revealed by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Anthony Albanese further declared that Australia would host “Exercise Malabar” later this year for the first time, while in August, India will take part in Australia’s “Talisman Sabre” exercise for the first time as well.
