Andaman and Nicobar Island has a great amount of significance when it comes to the Indian Ocean region and currently, India is planning to build a naval base at Andaman and Nicobar. It will provide India with a great advantage in that region.

Significance of Andaman and Nicobar island

Nicobar Island has great significance in geopolitical strategies, not only because it is located in the Indian Ocean but also because it is very close to the Malacca Strait.

Almost 60% of the world’s trade gets past this strait, and 65% of China’s oil export also passes through the Malacca Strait.

India already has a tri-service command at the great Nicobar and now planning to build a naval base shows that India wants to tighten its grip on the Indian Ocean.
