Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh arrested

Punjab police “arrested” Amritpal Singh, the radical preacher, in the Nakodar area of Jalandhar. Currently, the police are not revealing the news regarding the arrest to avoid any chaos in the region. Still, several images and videos have been forwarded confirming the arrest. To arrest Amritpal, police from 7 districts have been called up, and up to 100 police vehicles have been used.

The internet connection in Punjab has been shut down, as his associates have been circulating videos, requesting their followers to come to Shahkot and protest against police arrest. The home ministry has been in continuous contact with the Punjab government regarding this case.

Police officials said they were waiting for the G20 event to get over to arrest Amritpal. Several associates of this Khalistan sympathizer have already been detained.

Many police officials got injured during the violent protest launched by Mr. Singh. Amritpal thrashed the barricades outside the police station, with many of his followers carrying heavy armed artilleries and swords.

Many politicians gave a critical remark on this event as it was a clear example of breaking law and order.

It is said that Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal, is also taken in custody.
