Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth, the elder daughter of superstar Rajinikanth, has filed a police complaint after 60 sovereigns of gold and diamond jewelry went missing from her home in Chennai. The jewelry, worth Rs 3.60 lakh, was last seen by her in 2019 when she wore them for her sister Soundarya’s wedding.

How did the theft happen?

According to the FIR copy obtained by India Today, Aishwaryaa had placed the jewelry in a locker and a few of her house servants were aware of it. The locker was shifted to three different places in 2021 and 2022 for various reasons.

On August 21, 2021, the locker was taken along with other household belongings to her ex-husband Dhanush’s flat in CIT Nagar. In September 2021, it was later shifted to her apartment in St Mary’s Road in Chennai. It was in April 2022 that the said locker was shifted to her Poes Garden residence, while the keys to the locker remained in her flat on St Mary’s Road.

Diamond sets, antique gold pieces, Navaratnam sets, bangles, and nearly 60 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 3.60 lakh were stolen.

Who are the suspects?

In her complaint, Aishwaryaa wrote that she is suspicious of her maids, Eashwari and Lakshmi, and her driver Venkat who frequently visited her apartment on St Mary’s Road even when she was away. She also mentioned that some other people had access to her flat such as electricians and plumbers who came for maintenance work.

What is the status of the investigation?

The Teynampet Police have registered a case under Section 381 of IPC (theft by clerk or servant) and have initiated an investigation. They have questioned Aishwaryaa’s servants and driver but have not found conclusive evidence. They also check CCTV footage from all the places where the locker was kept.
