The prolonged dispute over jobs and pay conditions can finally be put to rest as on Monday, March 20, the RTM Union members at Network Rail voted in favor of the latest pay offer.
The deal
The agreement includes a 9.2% salary increase covering both last year and this year, as well as an additional boost for lower-paid employees and prolonged reduced train travel privileges.
The RMT national executive did not propose that members accept or reject the offer, but it did order a suspension of strikes during the voting period.
Additional terms of the agreement include 75% off leisure travel, which Network Rail members have long sought, and a halt on forced redundancies until January 2025.
As per sky news reports, the RMT union members’ poll began on March 9 and finished at noon today.
Terms of the agreement
Because employees of railway companies are involved in separate conflicts, the accord will result in a partial stop to rail strikes.
Members voted 76% to 24% in favor of a nearly 90% turnout.
Employees of Network Rail, such as signalers and railway maintenance personnel, are eligible for the new offer.
Also, it translates to an overall increase in basic pay ranging from 10.3% for the highest-paid grades to 15.2% for the lowest-paid rates. According to the union, the bulk of RMT members in Network Rail(55%) earns less than £35,000, making them eligible for the 15.2% raise over two years.
Because there is still no agreement with the 14 train operating firms that the Rail Delivery Group represents, the planned walkouts on March 30 and April 1 will still cause delays for passengers.
