India is planning to launch two ambitious missions in 2023: Chandrayaan 3 and Aditya L1
Chandrayaan 3
Chandrayaan 3 will be India’s third lunar mission, following the successful Chandrayaan 1 and 2. It will consist of a lander and a rover that will attempt to soft-land on the moon’s surface and explore its geology and environment.
The mission aims to demonstrate India’s end-to-end capability in safe landing and roving on the lunar surface. it will be having a similar structure to Chandrayaan 2, stated Somanath
Aditya L1
Aditya L1 will be India’s first solar mission, which will study the sun from a unique vantage point: the Lagrangian point 1 (L1), which is about 1.5 million km from Earth. At this point, the gravitational forces of Earth and the sun balance each other, allowing a spacecraft to orbit around it. The mission will carry seven scientific instruments that will observe various aspects of the sun, such as its corona, chromosphere, magnetic field, solar wind, etc.
Both these missions are expected to be launched by the middle of 2023, according to ISRO chief S Somanath. He said that both the spacecraft is fully ready and integrated, and are undergoing rigorous tests and simulations to ensure their success. He also said that he is eagerly waiting for these launches to happen, as they will enhance India’s space capabilities and contribute to global scientific knowledge. These missions will also provide us with new insights into our nearest celestial neighbors: the moon and the sun.
