Grimes and Elon Musk have changed their daughter’s name again. The singer and the Tesla CEO welcomed their first child together in May 2020 and initially named her X Æ A-12.
However, they later modified it to X Æ A-Xii to comply with California law, which does not allow numbers in names.
Now, Grimes has revealed that they have changed their daughter’s name again, this time to X Ash A-12.
In an interview with Vogue Italia, she explained that the new name is a compromise between her and Musk. “I think it sounds better like this,” she said. “X Ash A-12 has a nice ring to it.”

Grimes also shared a rare photo of her daughter on Instagram, showing her holding her in her arms while wearing a futuristic outfit. She captioned the photo with a heart emoji and the hashtag #vogueitalia. The photo received over 1.2 million likes and thousands of comments from fans and celebrities.
Grimes and Musk have been dating since 2018 and have kept their relationship mostly private. They rarely post photos of their daughter online and have not revealed her face to the public. Grimes has said that she wants to give her daughter as much autonomy as possible and let her choose her identity.
“I don’t want to gender them in case that’s not how they feel in their life,” she told The New York Times in July 2020. “I don’t know, I just feel like it doesn’t need to be known … They may decide their fate and identity.”
