Due to a “signal overshoot” on Wednesday, April 19, two goods trains derailed in the Shahdol area of Madhya Pradesh, causing delays for trains travelling between Bilaspur and Katni. Pilot has died.
The Incident
On Wednesday, two cargo trains crashed at the Singhpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh, killing one driver and wounding two of his colleagues. The impact was so severe that both trains’ engines caught fire, and their carriages derailed. Two railway personnel are believed to be trapped beneath the carriages.
As per IndiaTV ,the trains collided 10 kilometers before Shahdol on the Bilaspur to Katni railway line. Both trains were hauling coal. One of the trains was on the platform when another train arrived from Anuppur and collided with it, causing a fire in the stalled train’s engine.

Senior South East Central Railway (SECR) authorities will investigate what caused the incident.
The Aftermath
According to reports, the collision happened at about 6:30 am. There are senior railway authorities on the scene. All trains operating on the Bilaspur-Katni line have been impacted since the tragedy. Officials stated that the rescue effort is currently ongoing.
As a result of the derailment of nine wagons, including the engine, caused by a coal-loaded goods train’s signal overshoot at Singhpur station on the Bilaspur–Katni section of the South East Central Railway this morning, all rail operations on these three lines—the middle, down, and up—were suspended.
The Bilaspur to Shahdol MEMU train number 08740, the Shahdol-Ambikapur MEMU train number 08749, the Ambikapur-to-Anuppur MEMU train number 08758 as well as the Anuppur to Manendragarh MEMU train number 08759 is scheduled to be cancelled on April 19, 2023, following the train accident.
