The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) has honored two of the greatest batsmen of all time, Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, by naming a set of gates after them. The Lara-Tendulkar Gates were unveiled on April 24, 2023, to coincide with Tendulkar’s 50th birthday and the 30th anniversary of Lara’s first Test century, a magnificent 277 at the SCG.
The gates are located between the Member’s Pavilion’s away dressing room and the Noble Bradman Messenger Stand and will be used by all visiting teams to access the field of play. Tendulkar and Lara join Sir Donald Bradman, Alan Davidson, and Arthur Morris as the only cricketers to have gates named in their honor at the iconic venue.

The gates were unveiled by SCG and Venues New South Wales Chairman Rod McGeoch AO, CEO Kerrie Mather, and Cricket Australia CEO Nick Hockley. They praised Tendulkar and Lara for their exceptional records at the SCG and contribution to international cricket.
Tendulkar expressed his gratitude for the gesture and said that the SCG was his favorite ground away from India. He scored 785 runs in five Tests at the SCG, with an average of 157 and three centuries, including an unbeaten 241 in 2004.
