Simon Thompson, The Chief Of Royal Mail, Steps Down

After a year-long dispute with employees over compensation and a disagreement about delivery, the Royal Mail’s CEO resigned on May 12. He showed his gratitude to his colleagues for their assistance through a “difficult and important time of change.”

A Challenged Credibility

After his credibility was questioned by MPs who summoned him back for questioning before the Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) committee, Simon Thompson had been in discussions to quit the corporation.

He was charged with providing the committee with “inconsistencies” in his testimony.

Under Mr. Thompson’s direction, Royal Mail was also accused of not upholding its duty to provide universal service.

A year of disputes over salary and working conditions with union leaders has tarnished Mr. Thompson’s term. During the second part of last year, CWU members went on strike for 18 days.

Change Of Leadership

The business stated that it was in the “advanced stages” of hiring a new chief executive, and Mr. Thompson will stay on as part of the transition until October 31.

After the wage and conditions conflict, it’s thought that International Distributions Services, the parent company of Royal Mail, wanted new leadership in place at the corporation.

Last month, union leaders advised members to embrace the new agreement to end the conflict. Later this month, union members will cast ballots to voice their opinions.

As per Sky News, almost two years have passed since Mr. Thompson assumed the chief executive position in January 2021. He has been a non-executive director of the board since 2017, before his appointment.
