The duo added 251 runs for the fourth wicket after Australia was in trouble at 76/3. India’s bowlers struggled to find assistance from the pitch and could only manage four wickets in the day.

India’s reply got off to a shaky start as they lost both their openers cheaply. Rohit Sharma was caught behind off Mitchell Starc for 15, while Shubman Gill edged Pat Cummins to second slip for 13. Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli tried to steady the innings with a 28-run stand, but both fell quickly. Pujara was trapped lbw by Scott Boland for 14, while Kohli was bowled by Nathan Lyon for 14. Ajinkya Rahane and Ravindra Jadeja then added 51 runs for the fifth wicket, but Rahane fell on the stroke of stumps, caught by Alex Carey off Cameron Green for 29. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 48, with Wriddhiman Saha on five.
Australia has a massive lead of 318 runs with five wickets in hand. They will look to wrap up India’s innings quickly on the third day and enforce the follow-on. India will need a miraculous fightback from their lower order and their bowlers to stay alive in the contest. The match is crucial for both teams as the winner will lift the inaugural WTC trophy.
