The first Test of the Ashes 2023 is being played Australia and England from June 16-20,2023.
Usman Khawaja scored 126 not out and Alex Carey added 52 not out to help Australia reach 311 for 5 at stumps on day two of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston, trailing England by 82 runs.
Australia were in trouble at 14 for 2 after David Warner was caught behind off James Anderson for 14 and Marnus Labuschagne was bowled by Stuart Broad for 1.
But Khawaja and Travis Head (50) put on 80 for the third wicket to steady the innings. Head was caught behind off Jack Leach for 50 after adding 103 for the fourth wicket with Khawaja.
Khawaja, who was dropped on 26 by Jonny Bairstow, reached his seventh Test century off 199 balls. He was dropped again on 114 by Ben Stokes.

Carey, who was dropped on 13 by Joe Root, hit five fours in his unbeaten 52.
England’s bowlers were disciplined but lacked penetration. Anderson and Broad bowled with good control but were unable to take any wickets after the first hour.
Leach was the most successful bowler, taking 2 for 74.
The third day’s play is expected to be crucial, with Australia needing to bat well to avoid being bowled out cheaply and set England a challenging target.

Here are some of the key talking points from day two:
- Usman Khawaja is in excellent form. The left-hander has now scored centuries in each of his last three Test matches.
- Australia’s top order needs to find some consistency. The tourists have lost their first two wickets in each of their innings so far.
- England’s bowlers need to find a way to break through Australia’s middle order. The tourists’ batsmen have looked comfortable against Anderson and Broad so far.
