Australia won the second Ashes Test by 118 runs, taking a 2-0 lead in the series.
England were set a target of 371 to win, but they were bowled out for 253 in the final session of the day.
Ben Stokes was the only England batsman to make a significant contribution, scoring 108 off 147 balls.
Australia’s bowlers were once again in top form, with Josh Hazlewood taking 5-52 and Pat Cummins taking 3-47.
The win was a major boost for Australia, who are now in a strong position to win the Ashes series.
As It Happened
England’s batting was once again their undoing in this match. They were unable to build any partnerships, and they were eventually bowled out for their lowest total in a Test match at Lord’s since 1953.
Ben Stokes was the only batsman to shine, but even he was unable to prevent England from slipping to defeat. He scored his 10th Test century, but it was a lone hand as the rest of the England batting line-up failed to get going.
Australia, on the other hand, bowled superbly. Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Cameron Green were all in top form, and they made life very difficult for the England batsmen.
Hazlewood was the pick of the bowlers, taking 5-52 in 20 overs. He was particularly effective with the new ball, and he got the better of England’s top order on several occasions.
Cummins also bowled well, taking 3-47 in 22 overs. He was unlucky not to get a few more wickets, but he still played a key role in Australia’s victory.
