Bangladesh vs Afghanistan, 2nd ODI, Highlights

Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored a career-best 145 and Ibrahim Zadran added 100 as Afghanistan posted a daunting 331-9 against a hapless Bangladesh in the second one-day international in Chittagong on Saturday.

The hosts, who lost the first match by 17 runs on Wednesday, had opted to bowl first after stand-in skipper Liton Das won the toss.

But they were in for a rude shock as Gurbaz and Zadran put on a record 256-run opening stand, the highest for Afghanistan on any wicket.

Gurbaz, who was dropped on 43 by Mushfiqur Rahim, hit 15 fours and two sixes in his 145-ball knock, while Zadran struck 11 fours and a six in his 112-ball innings.

The rest of the Afghanistan batsmen also chipped in with useful contributions, with Mohammad Nabi scoring 32 and Rashid Khan 28 not out.

In reply, Bangladesh were never in the chase and were bowled out for 189 in 42.2 overs.

Mushfiqur Rahim top-scored with 69, while Shakib Al Hasan made 34.

The other Bangladesh batsmen failed to make an impact, with only Tamim Iqbal (13) and Liton Das (17) reaching double figures.

Mohammad Nabi was the pick of the Afghanistan bowlers, taking 3-32, while Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman claimed two wickets each.

The win gave Afghanistan an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

The Bangladesh bowlers were once again ineffective, with only Mustafizur Rahman (2-38) and Taskin Ahmed (2-49) taking multiple wickets.
Afghanistan’s fielding was also excellent, with four catches being taken by the slip cordon.
The Bangladesh batsmen struggled against the Afghanistan spinners, with Rashid Khan and Mujeeb Ur Rahman taking a combined haul of 5-70.

Overall, it was a comprehensive victory for Afghanistan, who were simply too good for Bangladesh on the day. The hosts will need to regroup quickly if they are to avoid a whitewash in the third and final ODI on Monday.
