A private commercial helicopter carrying six people, five of whom were Mexicans, who disappeared near Nepal’s Mount Everest region on Tuesday, crashed into a mountain in the eastern region, officials said.
Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) director Gyanendra Bhul said that the Mana Air NA-MV helicopter flew from Surk Airport in Solukhumbu district to Kathmandu at 10:04. Contact was broken at 10:13 at an altitude of over 12,000 feet.

The director said that the villagers told him that there was a loud noise when the helicopter crashed and that they saw fire at the scene of the accident.
The Kathmandu Post quoted the city’s deputy director, Nwang Lhakpa, as saying: “The locals saw the plane crash in Chihandada.” The helicopter’s final position was tracked in the Lamjura Pass area.
