The Ukrainian military said Wednesday that just hours before President Volodymyr Zelensky met with NATO leaders at a summit in Lithuania, Russia had launched the second consecutive night of kamikaze drone attacks on Kiev and other cities.
The Russian Air Force said on its Telegram messaging app that Russia launched a total of 15 Iranian Shahed drones into Ukraine overnight, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces shot down 11 of them.
Ihor Taburets, the military commander of the Cherkasy region southeast of Kiev, said on the Telegram messaging application that two people were injured in a fire in a non-residential area due to a drone attack.
Taburets said that the enemy attacked our area with “Shaheds” in the Telegram messaging application. The Russian Federation invades Ukraine. “The enemy has launched a new airstrike on the city,” said Serhiy Popko, Commander of the Kiev Armed Forces, on the Telegram messaging application.
Airstrikes continued for hours in Kiev and across Ukraine as NATO leaders gathered for a meeting, and clashes continued, drawing criticism from the Kremlin, warning that Moscow would respond to protect its own security.
Zelensky will attend the first meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council in Vilnius, Lithuania, on Wednesday. The council was created to bring Kiev closer to the 31-member transatlantic alliance. “Our defense is our number one priority,” Zelensky said on his Telegram channel before the meeting on Tuesday night. “More protection for our fighters – more protection for life across Ukraine.
