“Oarfish” is one of the longest fishes with bones in its skeleton and it is recognized by the GUINESS BOOK OF WORLD RECORDS.
This fish made headlines after a group of divers in Taiwan ran into this exceptional creature near the East coast of Taiwan in the Ruifang region of Taipei. This fish had big mysterious holes in it’s body, it is believed that this is a result of a shark attack.
In Japan this fish is also called “harbinger of earthquakes”, and the appearance of this fish has raised concerns about the activities under the surface which point to the possibilities of an upcoming earthquake as this fish is considered to be a forerunner of an approaching earthquake in Japanese folktales.
The viral video was first posted on Instagram page “wealth”. Video shows astound divers circling around the sparkling fish, and of the divers trying to touch it. The video was posted with the following comment “A wild experience with a rare deep-sea monster. Oarfish are large, greatly elongated, pelagic labriform fish belonging to the small family Regalecidae. Found in areas spanning from temperate ocean zones to tropical ones, yet rarely seen, the oarfish family contains three species in two genera. One of these, the giant oarfish (Regalecus glesne), is the longest bony fish alive, growing up to 11 m (36 ft) in length.”
This sea monster in the video is around 6.5 feet which is nowhere near the record-breaking fish of its kind, which was approximately about 36 feet, yet a sight to behold.
