Miss USA 2023 Nuclear engineering student Grace Stanke considers herself a mix of Barbie and Oppenheimer, or “Pappenheimer.”
The newly crowned Miss USA 2023, Grace Stanke, is not your typical New York diva. She is also a UW nuclear engineering student with a passion for science and math.

A real 20-year-old Pappenheimer. In an interview with CNN’s Christina McFarlane, Steinke said she was inspired by Barbie and Oppenheimer, who represent many of her personality and interests.
“Yes, I can be Miss America and a nuclear engineer. I can be a woman who can do that. That’s what I’m really excited about in the movie.”
“I think Barbie is a great role model for young girls. She shows that you can be anything you want to be.
You can be a doctor, you can be a lawyer, you can be a scientist, you can be Miss America,” she continued. He is the father of the bomb. He is also confused about his role in history. It contains many moral dilemmas.
I guess as a nuclear engineer I can appreciate that. Stanke said he chose to study nuclear engineering because he wanted to benefit the world through ‘clean energy’ and nuclear medicine.
There is still a lot of racism and discrimination. “I think that’s something we need to change,” he said.
Miss America 2023 added that she hopes to use her platform as Miss America to inspire more girls and women to follow their passions in STEM and other fields.
“I want to show them that they can be anything they want. They can be beautiful, smart, smart, successful. They can be both,” she said.
Steinke also said he’s excited to see “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” both of which are scheduled to hit theaters this year.
