Bangladesh has seen a concerning surge in dengue-related hospitalizations, recording a staggering 2,292 cases in just 24 hours, ending Sunday morning. Among the new cases, 1,000 patients were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka, while the rest sought medical care outside the city.
Tragically, the country has also witnessed nine more deaths from dengue within the same 24-hour period, bringing the total fatalities due to the mosquito-borne disease to 185 this year. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported that during this time, 2,293 more patients were hospitalized due to viral fever.
Health experts are expressing concerns over the upcoming months of August and September, as these periods are particularly favorable for the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes, which carry and spread the dengue virus.
Dhaka Tribune stated, “Nine more deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 185 this year.”
