Stimulus August 2023: Pennsylvania Taxpayers to Receive $140 Million in Property Tax/Rent Rebate

Stimulus August 2023: Pennsylvania Taxpayers to Receive $140 Million in Property Tax/Rent Rebate

The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue announced on Tuesday that it will be sending out $140 million in property tax/rent rebates to eligible taxpayers. The rebates are funded by the state’s Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, which provides financial assistance to low- and moderate-income homeowners and renters.

To be eligible for a rebate, taxpayers must meet certain income and property/rent requirements. The income limit for homeowners is $80,000 for single filers and $115,000 for married couples filing jointly. The income limit for renters is $50,000 for single filers and $75,000 for married couples filing jointly.

The amount of the rebate is based on the taxpayer’s income and property/rent. Homeowners can receive a rebate of up to $600, while renters can receive a rebate of up to $400.

The rebates will be issued in the form of direct deposits or paper checks. Taxpayers who have already filed their 2022 state income tax returns will receive their rebates automatically. Taxpayers who have not yet filed their returns can still claim a rebate by filing an application with the Department of Revenue.

The deadline to file an application for a rebate is December 31, 2023.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is a valuable resource for low- and moderate-income Pennsylvanians. The rebates can help to offset the cost of property taxes or rent, and they can provide much-needed financial assistance to struggling families.

If you are a low- or moderate-income Pennsylvanian who is eligible for a property tax/rent rebate, I encourage you to file an application. The rebates are a great way to save money and help to make ends meet.
