Prime Minister Narendra Modi is finally back in India after his 2-day visit to the UAE. Both the countries greeted a new course for their partnership, economically and in counter-terrorism.
Modi stated that the past relations between the two countries, India and UAE, have not kept pace with the exponential growth in relations between their people or the promise of this partnership.
Therefore, now there is a requirement to build a strong close strategic partnership between the two countries in many key areas which need the encouragement of trade & investment, strengthening defense relations, security, maritime security, and intelligence security.
Modi’s UAE visit fruitful
PM mentioned that the two countries (India and UAE) also condemned terrorism and rejected any links between religion and terrorism. They also rejected the efforts of people using religion to justify, support, and sponsor terrorism against other countries.
Modi said, “We have spoken in one voice against terrorism.” “Good terrorist, bad terrorist, good Taliban, bad Taliban, this won’t work.
A decision has to be taken: are you with terrorism or humanity?”. “Those who indulge in terrorism must be punished. That is the message resonating here today”.
He indirectly pointed towards Pakistan’s fake policies regarding terrorism, though he didn’t mention its name.
During his visit in Abu Dhabi, Modi visited a labor camp to show his concern for the welfare if its migrant workers who work hard in the oil-rich Gulf State.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, met Mr Modi to discuss on various issues regarding anti-terrorism efforts and intelligence sharing.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, met PM and presented him with a Hindi version of his book, Flashes of Thought.
This was the first visit by an Indian PM in the last 34 years to UAE after Indira Gandhi in 1981.
