“Uri: The Surgical Strike” marks the end of two-decade ban on Hindi films in Manipur
Happily, Manipur’s film culture is being revived after a 23-year hiatus with the premiere of Aditya Dhar’s “Uri: The Surgical Strike”.
The event was held in Churachandpur village in Manipur.Protesting the two-year ban on Indian films, the Hamar Student Association (HSA) finally lifted the curtain.
More details are that this ban was established in 2000 by the Revolutionary Popular Front and Meite terrorist organizations, the main branch of the People’s Liberation Army.
Later, the Aboriginal group Leaders Forum, which predominantly represents the voice of the Kuki group, gave the film a good review.
I am happy to invite you all to participate in this movie, thank you to all parents and friends. The last Indian movie shown to the public in Manipur was” Kuch Kuch Hota Hai” in 1998.
Directed by Karan Johar, the film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukerji and Kajol.
Then, in a ban that began in 2000, protesters burned thousands of Indian films, audio cassettes and CDs to show that Indian films pose a threat to the country’s language, culture and traditions.
But as they say ‘better late than never’, 23 years after the release of a popular Indian movie in Manipur, this event is still special in the spirit of Independence Day, which is also a symbol of public support of Manipur.
