‘Blue Beetle’ gets the highest Rotten Tomatoes for DC Universe this year

“Blue Beetle” received the highest rating on Rotten Tomatoes for this year’s DC movie.

New DC co-president James Gunn saw the story of superhero Jaime Reyes as a fresh start for the DC, which will follow and complement Gunn’s own Superman reboot.

Cobra Kai stars DC’s first Latino superhero, Xolo Maridueña, as Jaime, a reluctant hero caught in the middle of a conflict who was previously chosen as host by the mighty Scarab.

The low-stakes, family-focused comedy diverges from recent DC box office hits like Shazam, which has been disappointing with multiple stories.

Wrath of the Titans and The Flash seem to be one of the reasons it’s been talking to critics so far. At the time of this writing, Blue Beetle has an impressive 82% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, well above the average ratings of The Flash and Shazam 2 (64% and 49%, respectively).

The film’s Rotten Tomatoes score is also 39 percent better than Black Adam, and Suicide Squad is just under 90 percent.

The director previously told TheWrap.com, “I’m excited to direct DC’s first Latino superhero movie, “Blue Beetle.” I want to thank Warner Bros. and everyone at DC for believing in me.” I can’t wait to make history together.

Digital Spy’s own review described the Blue Beetle as “a fun debut for DC’s newest superhero” and praised Xolo Maridueña for his performance. “Cobra Kai star Xolo Maridueña has a future for DC superheroes, and fortunately, the fun blue streak makes you want to see more – even if he can’t avoid suffering from trouble, he knows the superhero,” wrote our film writer Ian Sandwell.

“Blue Beetle” is an excellent, entertaining and comprehensive book for children. This is also a tribute to Mexican culture.

“Blue Beetle” hits theaters on Friday, August 18.
