HBO’s controversial drama “The Idol” starring Sam Levinson and Abel “The Weeknd”. Tesfaye has been canceled after one season.

In an interview with Variety, star Moses Sumney said he thought it would be too restrictive when he signed, while star Da’Vine Joy Randolph told Variety that he thought “everyone would be making a second season”.
While rumors of the show’s cancellation were circulating, HBO tweeted that there was no status update yet on X (known as Twitter).
Produced by Levinson and The Weeknd, starring Lily-Rose Depp and Lily-Rose Depp, “The Idol” started making headlines long before it was released.
In April 2022, news came that Amy Seimetz had left the lead role and that Levinson would take over the role when the series was renewed.
Later, the March 2023 Rolling Stone story expanded on the serious allegations about the poisoning incident. The Weeknd responded by posting a deleted scene where his character leaves the Rolling Stone Statement as “irrelevant”.
Speaking at the Cannes Film Festival, Levinson said the article made him realize that the film would be “the greatest film of the summer”. Overall, “The Idol” received negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, with an approval rating of 19%.
Various reviews have described the series as “like a dirty man show.”This series has an average rating.
The show premiered with 913,000 viewers; that was 17% less than the other HBO series, Euphoria, which premiered in 2019. It was yet another teen drama created by Levinson, who debuted with fewer stars.
However, that number increased to 3.6 million viewers after the first week of the episode and is now at 7 million. On the first night of the second episode, the number of views dropped to 800,000.
HBO declined to share ratings data for the rest of the series.
Reza Fahim is the creator of Idol, Levinson, and The Weeknd. The three executive producers are Kevin Tulum, Ashley Levinson, Joe Epstein, Sarah E. White, and Brown’s Aaron L. Gilbert.
Selena Gomez, who was previously with The Weeknd, revealed that he modeled for Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn in real life and was upset when she canceled the event over a month ago.
