Typhoon Saola is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds to Hong Kong and southern China on Friday. The storm, previously a super typhoon, has weakened but is still equivalent to a Category 4 hurricane.

The Hong Kong Observatory has issued a T8 storm warning signal, its third highest level. Schools and businesses have been closed, and flights have been canceled. The city has also opened emergency shelters for residents who need to evacuate, reports CNN.

The Guangdong Province government has issued a typhoon red warning in China at its highest level. All classes, work, businesses, markets, and transportation have been suspended in Shenzhen, a major city in Guangdong. Nearly 4,000 train services in Guangdong have also been suspended.

The storm is expected to make landfall in southern China on Friday night. It is then expected to weaken as it moves inland. However, the Hong Kong Observatory has warned that the storm will still bring heavy rains and strong winds to the city.

Hong Kong and southern China residents are advised to stay indoors and avoid travel during the storm. They should also be prepared for power outages and flooding.
