Tribal woman stripped naked and paraded in Rajasthan

A 21-year-old tribal woman was allegedly stripped naked and paraded in a village in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district by her husband and in-laws on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in Gudiya village, about 200 km from Jaipur, the state capital. The woman’s husband and in-laws were reportedly angry that she was staying with another man.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing the woman being dragged naked by her hair and paraded through the village. She can be seen screaming and crying in the video.

The police have registered a case against the woman’s husband, in-laws, and two other men. Eight people have been detained in connection with the case.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot condemned the incident and said he had directed the director general of police to send the ADG (Crime) to the spot and take strict action.

Eight people, including the husband of a 21yearold tribal woman, have been detained. Police said the woman’s in-laws kidnapped and took her to their village.

“Such incidents have no place in a civilised society,” Gehlot tweeted. “The guilty will be punished severely.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also condemned the incident and said it was a “shame” for Rajasthan.

“This is not the first time such an incident has happened in Rajasthan,” BJP state president Satish Poonia said. “The government has failed to protect women.”

The incident has sparked outrage in Rajasthan and has renewed calls for action to stop violence against women.

The police have said they are investigating the matter and will take action against the guilty.

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has also taken suo motu cognizance of the incident and has asked the Rajasthan government to submit a report.

The NCW has also demanded that the guilty be arrested and punished immediately.

The incident is a reminder of the widespread violence against women in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 4.9 lakh cases of crime against women were registered in India in 2020. This is an increase of 3.7% from 2019.

The government has taken some steps to address the issue of violence against women, such as the passage of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act in 2005 and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act in 2013.
