About 3 million Americans are still owed stimulus checks between $600 and $1,400 from a pot of $4.7 billion. The deadline to claim these checks is November 15, 2023.
To claim your stimulus check, you can either:
- File a 2021 tax return, even if you don’t normally have to file taxes. You can do this online at IRS.gov.
- File a simplified tax return if you have little or no income. You can find more information about the simplified tax return on the IRS website.
If you file a tax return, you can claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on your return. This credit will give you the money you owe from the stimulus checks.
Steps to claim your stimulus check:
- Go to IRS.gov and create an account.
- Click on “File Taxes” and then “2021”.
- Follow the instructions to file your tax return.
- When you get to the “Recovery Rebate Credit” section, enter the amount of stimulus money that you are owed.
- Submit your tax return.
The IRS will then send you a check for the stimulus money you owe.
If you have any questions about claiming your stimulus check, contact the IRS at 1-800-829-1040.
Claiming your stimulus check:
- You must claim your stimulus check by November 15, 2023.
- If you file a tax return after November 15, 2023, you may not be able to claim the Recovery Rebate Credit.
