India on Saturday expressed its displeasure over the incident in which Indian High Commissioner to the UK Vikram Doraiswami was denied entry to the ashram in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Indian High Commission in London called it a ‘shameful incident’: “Three individuals, all from outside Scotland, deliberately attacked the Gurudwara Community Council, the High Commissioner (HC) and the Consul General of India (CG). “Attendees included senior community leaders, women’s and labor groups, as well as members of the Scottish Parliament. They were threatened and abused by these individuals.
To avoid any conflict, HC and CG decided to leave the venue soon after.
“In a video allegedly posted on Sikh Youth UK’s Instagram channel, a Khalistani activist is said to be defending Doraiswami against the Glasgow Gurudwara on Albert Avenue. Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar was killed in the conflict between India and Canada.
The video shows two men near the High Commissioner’s car in the parking area. One of them is seen attempting to open the car door.
The purported video then shows the high commissioner’s car leaving the gurdwara premises.
The statement by the High Commission of India further read: “One of the non-local extremist elements attempted to violently force open the HC’s car door – a matter that will require suitable police consideration.
It is due to the quick reaction of one of the organizers, who physically intervened at the car door, that a bigger incident was avoided.”
“The High Commission of India has reported this disgraceful incident to the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and the Metropolitan Police.
Multiple community organizations including the organizers have formally regretted the incident and have urged the authorities to take action against the culprits.”
