The Hindu festival of Durga Puja, also known as Durgotsav, is just around the corner. This marks Goddess Durga’s victory over the demon Mahishasura; hence, the goddess Mahishasura is also known as Mardini.
Devotees of Maa Durga are waiting with bated breath for the arrival of the five-day festival. While West Bengal celebrates this festival enthusiastically, other states like Assam, Odisha, Bihar, Tripura, and Jharkhand celebrate Goddess Durga enthusiastically.
These five days are called “Shashthi,” “Maha Saptami,” “Maha Ashtami,” “Maha Navami,” and “Vijayadashami.” The festival begins a week before Maharaja, the arrival of Goddess Durga on earth with her divine power from Kailash Parvat.
Nowadays, sculptors only make Goddess Durga’s eyes and fill them with colors before the special pooja is performed.
