Indian criminal Chota Rajan who had fled to Dubai in 1988 was arrested on October 26, 2015, in Bali, Indonesia.
The Central Bureau of Investigation confirmed his arrest.
According to reports, the tip-off came from Australia after which the Bali police caught Rajan.
Bali police said, “Acting on a tip-off from Australian police, Indonesian authorities detained Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje, alias ‘Chhota Rajan’ yesterday as he arrived in the popular resort island of Bali from Sydney.”
CBI director Anil Sinha issued a statement and said: “On the request of CBI (Interpol-India), Bali Police arrested Rajan on monday.”
“We thank authorities in Australia and Indonesia for their prompt assistance. Further investigation and identification are being carried out and further action will be taken as required under law,” said Anil Sinha.
Indian home minister Rajnath Singh thanked the Interpol and Indonesian for the underworld don’s arrest.
The operation was conducted jointly by the close coordination between India, Australia and Indonesia.
Chota Rajan started working for Rajan Nair (Bada Rajan) as a petty thief and took over the reins after Bada Rajan’s murder.
He is the top most wanted list in India with 17 murder cases, many extortion cases, smuggling and drug trafficking.
