New Delhi, The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has introduced the ‘Scheme for Residential Education for students in High Schools in Targeted Areas’ (SHRESHTA), a major step towards improving the quality of education for school pupils in India.
This program aims to increase the reach of development activities in places where Scheduled Castes (SC) predominate within the education sector while simultaneously offering high-quality education to kids from SC.
With two different operating modes, the SHRESHTA program is expected to revolutionize access to high-quality education while meeting the educational needs of kids in South Carolina.
Education in State Board-affiliated private residential schools under the CBSE:
THROUGH THIS ROUTE, Meritorious SC students will have a unique chance to be admitted to a limited number of private institutions connected to the State Boards and the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The National Testing Agency (NTA) will administer the National Entrance Test for SHRESHTA (NETS) to determine eligible candidates. Selected students can finish their education up to the 12th standard by enrolling in private residential schools in the 9th and 11th grades. Based on their merit, over 3000 SC youngsters whose parents earn up to 2.5 lakh per year would be chosen each year.
Admission to Schools Run by Nonprofits:
Under the second option, education up to the 12th grade will be provided in schools and hostels run by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and voluntary organizations (VOs). These institutions will go on offering instruction under the SHRESHTA program as long as they continue to receive grant-in-aid and show adequate performance.
The full cost of admission for students accepted under this program, including school and hostel fees, will be waived, guaranteeing access to a top-notch education without breaking the bank. In the chosen schools, students can also benefit from a bridge course that will meet their academic needs and help them transition to a new learning environment.
The program also covers the cost of the bridge course, which is equal to 10% of the annual fee. A commendable initiative, the SHRESHTA program seeks to guarantee that students from the Scheduled Castes obtain a top-notch education, equipping them for a better future.
The program aims to provide quality education to a wider range of students by providing two different ways of implementation. This approach effectively breaks down barriers and promotes educational equality throughout the country.
