During the Mugen Train Arc, the most emotional and heartbreaking moment was when the “Demon Slayer” fans saw the death of Kyojuro Rengoku.
But Kyojuro Rengoku’s death was an important turning event as it was necessary for plot and character development in the series.
Even though Kyojuro Rengoku is one of the strongest Hashira and the entire demon slayer corps, the makers sacrificed him because his juniors and other demon slayers got to know just how much strength they all lack.
Rengoku is popularly known as the ‘Flame Hashira’ and had one of the insane swordsmanship that led him to acquire the top position in the Corps.
How Did Rengoku Die During The Mugen Train Arc?
The Mugen Train Arc showed exactly how powerful a Hashira is in the “Demon Slayer” Corps. Rengoku’s sword skills and fighting style impressed all his juniors- Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Tanjiro. The flame Hashira’ also ensured to save all the 200 passengers on the train.
However, Rengoku faces Akaza, an Upper Rank Three demon, and they engage in an intense fight, but in the end, Akaza overpowers Rengoku, and we see Rengoku dying peacefully.
Demon Slayer’s Rengoku Had to Die to Motivate Tanjiro
In the “Demon Slayer” organization, the passing of Rengoku was a sad event, but it holds an important outcome for his character and the overall narrative.
Rengoku never considered himself extraordinary; he always believed he was an individual who worked hard. However, he recognized something within Tanjiro, so he willingly put his own life on the line to save him.
The death of Rengoku deeply impacted Tanjiro as it catalyzed his growth. Tanjiro greatly admired Rengoku’s abilities, so it devastated him when Akaza revealed that Rengoku had fallen in their battle.
This tragic event fueled Tanjiros’ determination to become stronger after receiving encouragement from the Flame Hashira, who expressed their faith in both him and Nezuko.
Rengokus’s demise made it abundantly clear how much of a threat Muzan Kibutsuji poses in the world of Demon Slayer. His untimely passing also forced the Demon Slayers to mature as they fully grasped the dangers that demons present to society.
