If you have watched the “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” movie then you know that Geto loses his fight with Yuta and he should be dead. But the anime series takes place just a year after that incident and still we can see Geto alive. It was not until the latest Shibuya Arc that we got to know about the real reason.
In the movie, we saw that Gojo meets his wounded friend Geto with a killing intent, but we don’t actually know whether Gojo kills Geto or he lets him go, but since we see Geto alive in the series we can assume that Gojo spares Getos life and lets him escape.
Geto’s True Identity In The “Jujutsu Kaisen”
“Geto isn’t Geto”! He goes by the name Kenjaku and is a sorcerer who has managed to extend his life for centuries by transferring his consciousness from one body to another. After Geto’s demise, in “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” Kenjaku took possession of his body. Although this revelation occurred in season 2 of “Jujutsu Kaisen” we still have limited information about Kenjaku and his intentions. It’s likely that we’ll gain insight into him and his plans, in this season of the anime.
Kenjaku, the antagonist, in “Jujutsu Kaisen” seems to be the main troublemaker. His twisted ambition involves merging all the people in Japan into Tengen just to witness the aftermath. To achieve this plan he has been seizing control of people’s bodies for centuries. One notable instance is when he manipulated an ancestor from the Kamo clan’s lineage and orchestrated the creation of the Cursed Womb; Death Paintings.
Surprisingly it is unveiled that Kenjaku once resided within Yuji’s mothers body and possibly played a role in Yuji’s birth. This revelation suggests that Kenjaku might have influenced Yuji’s abilities with Sukuna’s interests at heart—seeking to create a vessel for Sukuna himself. However as time went on Kenjaku grew weary of Yuji. Also Sukuna is more interested in Megumi’s body.
Why Did Kenjaku Choose Geto?
Kenjaku decided to take over Geto because he desired Geto’s ability to manipulate Cursed Spirits. This skill would enable him to control both Mahito and Tengen, increasing the number of sorcerers in Japan and eventually merging them into a cursed spirit.
Moreover Kenjaku planned to use Geto’s appearance as a means to surprise Gojo making it easier to seal him away. Recognizing that he couldn’t defeat Gojo in combat Kenjaku saw sealing him as the best way to prevent interference, with his grand scheme.
