Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has found himself embroiled in a controversy after a video surfaced online showing him flying in a luxurious private jet. The clip, posted by fellow Congress minister BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan, sparked immediate criticism from the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing the Chief Minister of insensitivity amidst the state’s ongoing drought crisis.
The Video and the Backlash:
The video, presumably shot during a recent travel, showcases Khan posing and filming in various sections of the opulent jet. The opulent interiors, featuring plush leather seats, spacious cabins, and entertainment systems, stand in stark contrast to the hardships faced by farmers and communities reeling under the drought’s impact.
The BJP swiftly seized the opportunity, with leaders like Vijayendra attacking Siddaramaiah on social media. He accused the Chief Minister of “flaunting opulence” while farmers were struggling to survive. Others questioned the justification for using such expensive travel when seeking drought relief funds from the Centre.

The Congress, however, has come to the Chief Minister’s defense. Siddaramaiah, responding to the criticism, questioned the BJP’s selective outrage, asking, “How does Prime Minister Modi travel? You tell me first.” He pointed out that other dignitaries also frequently use private jets for official purposes.
Additionally, Congress leaders argued that the private jet was chartered by a donor and offered at a discounted rate. They emphasized that the purpose of the travel was to seek crucial drought relief funds, highlighting the urgency of the situation.
