Two 18-year-old teens have been caught for a terrible act of violence against a group of high school students in Northeast Philadelphia. The frightening incident happened last Wednesday afternoon when the teens were just waiting for their school bus.
Brazen Attack Caught on Video
According to the police, security camera footage shows three people getting out of a car near the bus stop around 3 pm. For no good reason, they walked up to the students gathered there and started shooting guns – firing at least 30 bullets before running away. The attack injured 8 students aged 15 to 17, with one 16-year-old getting shot 9 times and very badly hurt.
Suspects Found Through Stolen Cars
By looking at evidence that included two stolen cars, police were able to identify the suspects as Jamaal Tucker and Ahnile Buggs, both age 18. Tucker turned himself in, while Buggs was caught over the weekend. However, police say their investigation is still happening as they try to find two more people who were also involved.
“We’re going to get anyone who helped with these senseless acts,” said Deputy Commissioner Frank Vanore. “Hurting our young people will not be allowed.”
Facing Tough Punishment
The two teens have been charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, gun violations and reckless behaviour toward each of the 8 victims. “These defendants could get locked up for a very long time for this horrible violence against children,” said District Attorney Lawrence Krasner.
After this latest shooting tragedy, city officials have renewed their commitment to using every possible resource to stop the rise in violent crime and keep Philadelphia’s students and residents safe.
