National Good Samaritan Day is all about changing the world of people. It is about being kind and selflessly helping people, especially those who cannot pay you back. For instance, you might donate your clothes to a needy person and that would hardly have any impact on the world around you. There is a saying that – “You can’t change the whole world, but you can certainly change the world of a person.”
But, the person who will wear your clothes won’t have to remain without clothes during the harsh winter. A small help can make a huge difference to someone’s life. National Good Samaritan Day glorifies the idea of generosity.
History of National Good Samaritan Day
National Good Samaritan Day is observed on this day in honor of a woman named Catherine “Kitty” Genovese. On March 13, 1964, Genovese was murdered near her New York City home and although many people saw her, none came to her rescue. The purpose behind National Good Samaritan Day is to evoke kindness and sympathy amongst people and hope they will be kind and help those in need not only on March 13 but throughout the year.
