2024 Lunar Eclipse: What is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse?
A solar flare occurs when the Moon passes through the Earth’s penumbra or the darkest part outside its shadow. The moon was a little bright, it was hard to see. This type of lunar eclipse is less visible than other lunar eclipses and is often confused with a full moon. The first lunar eclipse of 2024 will occur on March 25. The Hindu festival Holi also takes place on the same day.
According to Times of India, the penumbra eclipse will begin at 12:53 PM ET (0453 GMT) and the maximum phase of the eclipse will occur a few hours later at 3:12 AM ET (0712 GMT). It will end at 5:32 EDT (0932 GMT). The total duration of the lunar eclipse will be 4 hours and 39 minutes.
According to NASA, a partial lunar eclipse will occur next month on September 18, 2024, and will be visible from America, Europe, and Africa.
Lunar Eclipse 2024: Will India See a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse?
The first lunar eclipse or penumbral eclipse of 2024 will not be visible from India. According to timeanddate.com, the penumbra lunar eclipse will be visible in the Americas, most of Europe, Australia and Africa, North/East Asia, the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Antarctica. The moon will be visible in Ireland, Belgium, Spain, England, southern Norway, Italy, Portugal, Russia, Germany, Japan, Switzerland, the Netherlands and France.
Lunar Eclipse 2024: Sutak Time and Holi Celebrations
Sutak Time starts nine hours before the solar eclipse. It is advisable not to have faith or start good works now. However, the Sutak period will not be considered valid as the bright sun on March 25 will not be visible in India. Religious activities will not be restricted and temple doors will not be closed. Meanwhile, Purnima Tithi of Holi starts at 9:54 am on 24 March 2024 and ends at 12:29 am on 24 March 2024. 25 March.
